"Finally found my go-to spot for Gas Stations in Canton. Duke’s Travel Plazaa never disappoints.
About Duke’s Travel Plazaa
Duke’s Travel Plaza stands out as more than just a typical roadside stop along Interstate 20 in Canton. This unique combination gas station and barbecue joint has earned a loyal following among East Texas travelers and locals alike, offering genuine pit-smoked barbecue in an unexpected setting. Located at mile marker 21620, Duke’s provides the perfect opportunity for road-weary travelers to fuel up both their vehicles and themselves with authentic Texas barbecue.
The menu centers around traditional East Texas barbecue favorites, featuring slow-smoked brisket, pulled pork, and ribs that spend hours in the pit until they reach perfect tenderness. The brisket showcases the classic bark and smoke ring that barbecue enthusiasts expect, while the pulled pork delivers rich, smoky flavor with just the right amount of sauce. Diners can choose from classic sides like coleslaw, baked beans, and potato salad, all served with thick slices of white bread to complete the authentic barbecue experience.
The atmosphere embraces its dual identity as both travel plaza and barbecue destination, with practical seating arrangements that accommodate everyone from truckers grabbing a quick meal to families on road trips. The no-frills interior focuses attention on the food rather than fancy dΓ©cor, creating an authentic, down-home environment where the aroma of smoking meat fills the air. Large windows provide natural light while offering views of the busy interstate beyond.
Duke’s serves as an ideal stop for travelers seeking genuine Texas barbecue without the pretense, making it perfect for road trip meals, casual lunches, or quick dinners when craving authentic pit-smoked meats. The combination of convenient highway access, quality barbecue, and reasonable prices makes this establishment a favorite among truckers, travelers, and Canton residents who appreciate good food in an unpretentious setting.
